Shearing at Wangaratta West!

This term we are learning about our wonderful farmers, and how they provide all our food and most of what we wear.  With this in mind we had an amazing start to our day today.  Doug came to our school this morning with 3 of his sheep to show us how to shear a sheep, and to talk about what these beautiful animals provide for us.

This is how Doug brought his sheep to our school.

Doug showed us how to hold a sheep.

They were very calm.

Doug showed us the comb he uses to shear the sheep.

The sheep did not move as Doug worked.

Even when he was taking the wool off her head.

The job is nearly done.

All done.  Wow but she is looking white now!  Doug told us that she has a little wool left on so that she will not get sunburnt in the warmer days to come.

Doug got the next sheep out to shear her for us.

Look at how big she looks.

A very quick peek of Doug in action.

We spotted a Willie Wagtail eyeing the wool.  I bet that he would just love it for his nest!

Thanks Doug we had a wonderful time watching you today, and we have learnt so much more about our amazing farmers and how vital they are to us!
